Wilmer Fredrick Goyer

Wilmer Fredrick Goyer passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013, at Crown Point Rehabilitation & Nursing Center after a brief stay of two weeks at the age of 96 years, 9 months, and 3 days. Wil, as he was more commonly known, was born in Pleasant Township, Ohio, on September 26, 1916, to Albert William and Ella Hannah (Dietsch) Goyer. Wil worked in Marion, Ohio, at the Borden's Dairy until moving to Bellaire, Michigan, in 1949, where he worked at Log Cabin Mfg. Company, Tool & Die Drilling Company. He owned his own refrigeration & air conditioning repair service and also worked for the county agricultural department as a milk & soils tester. Wil and Mary moved back to Ohio where they took care of his wife's mother until her passing. They then moved to Cape Coral, Florida for 14 years before moving to Arkansas where he managed a Black Angus Cattle Farm for Warren Harding. Wil was very active in the Methodist Church in both Oxford and Horseshoe Bend. He was a member of the Masons, Shriners, volunteeer police and a 4-H leader. Wil mloved square dancing and bowling, beaing active in bowling into his 90's. He loved to hunt and fish but mostly he loved his faming where he won many blue ribbons at Fairs showing his cattle and rare breeds of chickens. Wil leaves behind one daughter, Lois Marilyn Goyer Smith (Larry Lloyd) of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; one brother, Vernon Carl (Janet) of Marion, Ohio; six grandchildren, Kristin Lynn Fortenberry Simmons (Glen) of Allen, Texas, Charles Frederick Ivan Fortenberry (Donna) of Frisco, Texas, Joseph Oscar Fortenberry, Jr. (Svitlana) of San Diego, California, Brandon Goyer (Alysia) of Monterey Beach, California, Jeffery Todd Goyer (Valerie); and David Samuel Goyer and wife of Los Angeles, California; nine great grandchildren, Lauren, Christopher, Kaitlin, and Kylie Simmons, Jessica and Jonathan Fortenberry, Lauren and Robin Goyer and Brian and Kimberly Fortenberry of Germany. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth (Morey) Goyer who drowned in the flood of 1982 in Oxford, Arkansas. He remarried twice and was preceded in death by both, Sally and Lillian. Also preceded by son, Robert Weldon Goyer; granddaughter, Robin Michelle Scott (daughter of Lois); brother, John Albert Henry Goyer and sister, Dorotha Hannah Goyer. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, July 3, 2013, 9:00 AM in the Marion Cemetery in Marion, Ohio, with Masonic rites and Rev. David Hoffman officiating. Barker Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel in charge of arrangements.
