Vanita (Smith) Harris

August 31, 1935 — November 14, 2022

Vanita (Smith) Harris, 87, of Salem, Arkansas, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, November 14, 2022, in Greenbrier, Arkansas.  Vanita was born August 31, 1935, in Wheeling, Arkansas to James Alvin Smith and Laura Zepha (Southard) Smith.

Vanita was united in marriage to W A Harris on July 15, 1954, in Wheeling, Arkansas. They built a beautiful life and spent 50 admirable years together. Vanita spent her working years as a licensed abstractor with Fulton Title Company for approximately forty years.  Vanita was a member of the Salem Church of Christ and loved spending time with her family and church family. Vanita was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and friend. 

Vanita leaves to mourn her passing, son, Tim Harris (Kim) of Greenbrier, Arkansas; two daughters, Karen Coffman (James) of Salem, Arkansas and Gayla Iberg (Craig) of Greenbrier, Arkansas; ten grandchildren, Mitch Harris, Jade Spotts (Justin), Sam Harris, Jace Owen (Jordan), Caden Owen (Kelsey), Autumn Coffman, Lakin Coffman, Misty Nelson (Bill), Stormy Iberg, and Stoney Iberg (Katie); eight great grandchildren, Pace Spotts, Conn Spotts, Rance Nelson, Tinsley Owen, Ryle Nelson, Hutch Spotts, Kash Owen, and Ramsey Nelson; two brothers, Calvin “Buster” Smith (Sue) of Salem, Arkansas and C.O. “Tuffy” Smith of Wheeling, Arkansas; sister, Lee Stephens (Ken) of Owasso, Oklahoma; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband (W A Harris), parents, brother (Clyde Smith), and three sisters (Louise Moss, Almeta Blue, and Loreta Davis). A special thank you to those in Salem who cared for Vanita in her last few years. She had a host of wonderful caregivers, friends, and family who devoted time to her care and comfort. Thank you also to the loving staff at Seeds of Love, in Greenbrier, Arkansas for treating Vanita like family during her last months. We will remember you always.

Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Salem Church of Christ in Salem, Arkansas with Bro. David Gibson and Bro. Mike Yates officiating. Visitation will be 1:00 P.M. until time-of-service Thursday, November 17, 2022, at the Salem Church of Christ. The interment will be in the Salem Cemetery in Salem, Arkansas.  Pallbearers will be Mitch Harris, Sam Harris, Stoney Iberg, Jace Owen, Caden Owen, and Conn Spotts. Memorials may be made to the Salem Church of Christ Missions. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home, LLC in Salem, Arkansas.
