Robert James King, Sr. was born at Many Islands, Fulton County, Arkansas on October 7, 1930 to the late Allen King and Jody “Ethel” May (Hurst) King Qualls Downs. Robert died the evening of May 1, 2020 at Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation at Ash Flat, Arkansas.
Robert served his country during the Korean War aboard the Ammunition Supply ship, USS Katmai (AE 16) as a Gunner’s Mate until being released from active duty in 1956. Robert then returned to Arkansas where he met his future bride, Miss Nancy Ellen Shelley. They were wed on February 12, 1958 at the home of her parents, Mr. James Thomas and Mary Ann (McConnell) Shelley at Ballard, Sharp County, Arkansas.
Robert spent many years farming, logging, and doing road construction work. He was of Protestant faith and he was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend.
Robert is survived by his two children, Robert James King, Jr. of Ash Flat, Arkansas and Ellen Mae King of Clayton Court at Salem, Arkansas; two sisters, Leona (Qualls) Green and husband Kermit “Gene” of Decatur, Michigan and Delia Ann (Qualls) Schultz of Waterveliet, Michigan; aunt, Mary Hutchison of Pocahontas, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Marilyn Qualls of St. Joseph, Michigan; many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Robert was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers (Raymond King, Delmo Qualls and a stillborn), and sister-in-law (Virginia L. (Stringfellow) King) who was Raymond’s wife.
Private graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Hurst Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas with Bro. Wayne Hurst officiating. Interment will be in the Hurst Cemetery in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the church or charity of your choice. Arrangements are entrusted to Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Arkansas.
