Louie Oscar Lakey, Jr, son of Louie Oscar Lakey Sr and Irene McGee Lakey was born on March 23, 1944 in England, Arkansas. On June 3, 2021 he departed this earth in Alexander, Arkansas. He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Billy Lakey and Bobby Lakey. Sister, Ida Lou Lakey and wife Margaret "Sue" Moody Lakey of 34 years. Louie was a 1962 graduate of Perryville High School. He joined the Navy as an Aviation Mechanic onboard the aircraft carrior USS Bennington where he served in the vietnam war. Then he was employed at Delta Airlines where he was a ticket agent supervisor and retired after 32 years of service. He was a master carpenter, mechanic and avid hunter. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He enjoyed mentoring his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren on camping, water skiing/sports, hunting and the outdoor way of life. In more recent years, Louie loved spending his time at the I30 Speedway where he raced many years ago. He dedicated his time to help in maintaining the track and equipment after his racing years. He is survived by three sons: James Lakey, Kevin Lakey (Jayme)and Danny Lakey all of Mabelvale. Stepchildren: Judi White Graham of Harrison, Arkansas, Matthew White of Little Rock, Arkansas. Ten grandchildren: Sean Lakey (Kayla), Chelsea Lakey, Justin Lakey, Shannon Roswell (Martin), Brandi Thornberry (Todd), Darren White (Holly), Shelbi Wiltz (Ben), Megan Graham, Shelli Graham and Willow Sophia White. Fourteen great grandchildren: Matthew Tabory, Seth Roswell, Alexis Roswell, Wyatt Echols, Grace Echols, Brantley Thornberry, Kaylee White, Madison Thrift, Melanie White, Addison White, Audree White, Harper Wiltz, Joshua James Graham and Zella Graham. Brothers: Carroll Lakey. Sisters: Verlee Taylor, Geneva Gray, Della Sue Blackwood and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
The graveside services will be 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at Spring Creek Cemetery in Calico Rock, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Sean Lakey, Darren White, Matthew Tabory, Seth Roswell, and Phil Allen. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas 72576.
