James Albert Scott, 90, of Salem, Arkansas passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at Salem, Arkansas. Jim was born on September 18, 1933, in Wolf Lake, Indiana to Robert Hudson Scott and Madeline Aleena (Fowler) Scott.
Jim was united in marriage to Barbara Jean Collins on June 6, 1959, in Newark, Arkansas and to this union four daughters were born. Jim spent his working years as a professional land surveyor and math professor at Arkansas State University and Salem High School. He worked on his doctorate in math at Vanderbilt University. He served his country in the United States Army during Peacetime as a mechanic. He wrote the bylaws for the Arkansas Society of Professional Surveyors, served as past president and was the Arkansas Representative for the National Land Surveyor's Association. He was a cowboy and rode bareback broncs in rodeos. He was also a farmer, an Eagle Scout, and was very artistic and creative. He was a member of the Salem First United Methodist Church in Salem, Arkansas and was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend.
Jim leaves to mourn his passing wife, Barbara Scott of Salem, Arkansas; four daughters, Jeanie Oliver (Eddy) of Salem, Arkansas, Cindy Hall of Salem, Arkansas; Susan Moisio (Kenn) of Aurora, Indiana, and Jamie Scott (Ron Barrett) of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; seven grandchildren, Sach Oliver (Codi), Amy Hall, Jake Oliver (Jacob), Cline Hall (Ashley), Tanner Hunt (Casey), Madeline Moisio (Paige), and Oliver Moisio; nine great grandchildren, Reesa, Reagan, Carlee, Adeline, Kelton, Kohen, Jack, Kate, and Clancy Jo; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents (Hudson and Madeline Scott) and brother (Robert Scott).
Funeral services will be 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the Salem First United Methodist Church in Salem, Arkansas with Bro. John Hodges officiating. Visitation will be 2:oo P.M. until time of service on September 15, 2024, at the Salem First United Methodist Church in Salem, Arkansas. Interment will be Sunday, September 15, 2024, at the Salem Cemetery in Salem, Arkansas. Pallbearers will be Sach Oliver, Tanner Hunt, Kenn Moisio, Jake Oliver, Ron Barrett, Cline Hall, Eddy Oliver, and Oliver Moisio. Honorary Pallbearers will be Amy Hall, Ashley Hall, Codi Oliver, Madeline Moisio, and Casey Hunt. Memorials may be made to the Fulton County Hospital Auxiliary in Salem, Arkansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas.
