Anita Carroll Harris

October 18, 1927 — January 5, 2020

Anita Carroll (Collins) Harris, 92, of Highland, Arkansas crossed over into Heaven on January 5, 2020. She was born October 18, 1927 in Mammoth Spring, Arkansas, daughter of Lester and Mildred (Carroll) Collins. 

Anita was married to David E. “Dick” Harris on August 18, 1946 in Salem, Arkansas.  She was a member of the Salem United Methodist Church where she played the piano and volunteered for many Children’s Activities….earning the name “Granny Nita”.  Music was a big part of Anita’s life and there are many fond memories of sitting around the kitchen table with her large and extended family sharing her love of music. She enjoyed songwriting, reading and writing poetry, was an avid reader and a lifetime Democrat.  She was member of Eastern Star and the GFWC Sorosis Club of Salem.  She was currently working full-time for her son at Highland Window and Door. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. 

Survivors include her son David (Georgia) Harris of Highland, Arkansas; two daughters, Susan Crawford of Highland, Arkansas and Missy (Jan Jones) Harris of North Little Rock, Arkansas, and many other relatives and “adopted” kids….hence the name “Little Mama”; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Todd) Mazur, Stephanie (Justin) Dunn, Kyle (Brittney) Crawford, Kyra (Randy) Harding, Scott (Kim) Crawford, Chad (Demaris) Crawford; ten great grandchildren, Madeleine Mazur, Landen Mazur, Justin Dunn, Grace Dunn, Luke Dunn, Hadlynn Crawford, Brooks Crawford, Chett Crawford, Clay Crawford, Kacee Crawford.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her son-in-law, Harold Crawford. 

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Salem United Methodist Church, with visitation at 10:00 am followed by service at 11:00  am. Pallbearers are Justin Dunn, Brent Watts, Landen Mazur, Todd Mazur, Justin M. Dunn, Kyle Crawford. Honorary pallbearers are Jan Jones, Patty Neal, Tommy Benton, Bob Evins, James Kerley, Chad Crawford, Clay Crawford, Jim Short, Mike Dover, and Jim Bozeman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem United Methodist Church, ATTN: Backpack Program, 205 W. Church St., Salem, AR 72576; Cherokee Village Animal Shelter, Box 129, Cherokee Village, AR 72525.

Arrangements are under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
