Donald Gene Lowrie, 86, of Salem, Arkansas was born on June 1, 1930, in Omaha, Nebraska, son of Richard Lemay and Elsie Mae (Miller) Lowrie. He departed this life on March 8, 2017 in Little Rock, Arkansas. Donald married Mary JoAnn Branscum on March 27, 1981 in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather and was of the Baptist faith. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He served our country for twenty four years in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was the featherweight division Golden Glove Champ for five years in the Air Force. He founded the Arkansas Boxing Club in 1974. He turned the club over to Ozell Nelson in 1990 but remained active for many years. He was a member of the VFW Post #9777 in Salem and was a member of the DAV. He is survived by his wife, Mary JoAnn (Brascum) Lowrie of Salem, Arkansas; four sons, Robert Lowrie and wife Augusta of Viola, Arkansas, James Lowrie and wife Cecilia of El Paso, Texas, Richard Lowrie and wife Jackie of Atlanta, Georgia, and Donald Gene Lowrie, Jr. of Fairfield, California; three daughters, Donna Jean Bell and husband Stanley of Oxford, Arkansas, Dora Jean Kelley and husband Richard of Oxford, Arkansas, and Missy Nance and husband Marty of Newport, Arkansas; brother, Terry Lowrie and wife Kathy of Paragould, Arkansas; two sisters, Judy Ohlemacher and husband Arno of Petaluma, California and Marlene Karcher and husband Don of Lancaster, Ohio; twelve grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers (Pat, Gerald, and Gary), sister (Shirley Trudeau) and grandson (Glenn Richardson, Jr.). Memorial Services will be held at Barker Funeral Home, Monday, March 13, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. John Hodges and Mary Worthen officiating.
