George Garland "Pa" Branscum was born in Ash Flat, Arkansas, April 4, 1925, son of Tramuel Stewart and Ethel Viola (Roper) Branscum. He departed this life Monday, May 2, 2016, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas, at the age of 91 years and 28 days.
Garland was united in marriage to Ella Pauline Nix in Ash Flat, Arkansas, November 23,1942, and to this union three children were born. He served his Country with the US Navy and the CC Camp. Garland enjoyed time spent farming and was the grounds keeper at the Cherokee Village Golf Course for 25 years. "Pa" was a fox hunter, loved polka music, gardening and his children. He was a member of Salem First Baptist Church.
"Pa" is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Sisney of Ash Flat, Arkansas; two sons, Raymond Branscum (Linda) of Calico Rock, Arkansas, and Gary Branscum (Lenisa) of Salem, Arkansas; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nine great-great grandchildren; one sister, Opal York (Euion) of Morriston, Arkansas; two sisters-in-law, Alice Nix of Ash Flat, Arkansas, and Onita Branscum of Ravenden Springs, Arkansas; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline Branscum; his parents; three sisters, Wiona Day, Eula Herron and Alta Bristow; five brothers, Arlis, Homer, Eldon, Guy and Sherman Branscum; and a son-in-law, Jimmy Sisney.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 5, 2016, 10:00 AM at the Salem First Baptist Church in Salem, Arkansas, with Bro. John Hodges officiating. Interment will be in the Wiles Cemetery in Ash Flat, Arkansas, with arrangements entrusted to Barker Funeral Home of Salem. Family will receive friends Wednesday, May 4, 2016, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Scott Branscum, Zach Branscum, Cole Branscum, Tim Branscum, Jared Jones, Justin Branscum and Garrett McSpadden. Honorary pallbearers are Michelle Ward, Michaelene Mack, Jake Johnson, Raymond Trent, Gary Fowler, Stacey Robbins, Douglas Herron, Jim Crews, Dale Ivey, Robbie Wilbur, Rick Saunders, Charlotte LaFevers and Doug Jones. Memorials preferred to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
