Owen Lee Sanders, 77, of Hardy, Arkansas, passed away February 20, 2016, at Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg, Missouri. Owen was born September 4, 1938, to James Owen and Edna Reable (Ross) Sanders in Wild Cherry, Arkansas.
Owen was united in marriage to Mary Lou French on December 16, 1957, and worked at the General Motors Lead’s plant in Kansas City where he spent most of his time as a welder. He was a proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Owen loved to build furniture for church raffles and fundraisers for Saddle Baptist Church in Saddle, Arkansas, which he did for many years.
Owen was preceded in death by his father, James Sanders. He is survived by his mother, Edna Reable Sanders; his wife, Mary Lou Sanders of the home; one son, Douglas Owen Sanders of Holden, Missouri; a daughter, Peggy Sue Hawthorne and husband Greg of Holden, Missouri; one brother, Donnie Sanders of Alton, Missouri; four sisters, Sharon Maguffee of Salem, Arkansas, Wilma Comstock of West Plains, Missouri, Polly York of Koshkonong, Missouri, and Audean Cantrell of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 27, 2016, 10:00 AM, at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas, with Jackie Dockins officiating. Interment will be in the Elizabeth Cemetery at Elizabeth, Arkansas, with Military Honors. Family will receive friends Friday, February 26, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Barker Funeral Home in Salem.
