Jerry Neal Carter was born April 7, 1943, in Salem, Arkansas, son of Ray C. and Thelma Annette (Riggs) Carter. He departed this life Friday, November 6, 2015, at Ozarks Medical Center in West Plains, Missouri, at the age of 72 years, 6 months and 30 days.
Jerry was united in marriage April 10, 1963, to Sharon Lee Bryant in Marion, Indiana. He was an insurance agent for Sabco, formerly Carter Ins. Agency for 30 + years. Jerry was active in various community activities and a founding member of Salem Bass Club. He was an avid fisherman and loved the Arkansas Razorbacks and will be remembered fondly by all who knew and loved him.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sharon Carter of the home in Salem, Arkansas; one daughter, Leah Blevins (James) of Salem, Arkansas; a son, Ted Carter (Chasity) of Salem, Arkansas; five grandchildren, J.W. Blevins, Abby Blevins, Paige Hollis, Ryan Hollis and Paige Howard; one great granddaughter, Kenslee Grace Nicholson; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Tommy Carter.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, November 8, 2015, 2:00 PM in Salem United Methodist Church with Pastor Cherie Baker and Bro. John Hodges officiating. Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery in Salem, Arkansas, with arrangements entrusted to Barker Funeral Home of Salem. Pallbearers are Dr. Jim Bozeman, Dr. David Kauffman, Seth Martin, John Ed Welch, Richard Smith, Monte McKewen, Jimmy Reppond and Trapper York. Honorary pallbearers are Yvonne Zeigler, Jana Tyler, Missy Wagner, Mary Jo Pate, Robin Stone, Dawn Gilbreath and Lena Hall. Memorials preferred to Salem United Methodist Church or Salem Cemetery Association.
