Fern Marie (Gill) Ellis was born on May 18, 1934, in Myron, Arkansas, to John Wesley and Anna Victoria (Halcomb) Gill. She departed this life Friday, January 9, 2015, at Jonesboro, Arkansas, at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 22 days.
Fern spent her working years as a nurse and as a hospice volunteer. She loved playing basketball, softball and was well known for her homemade fried pies.
Fern is survived by three children, Freddie Lee Ellis (Pam) of Heart, Arkansas, Lynna Gail Hall of Salem, Arkansas, and Kyla Anne Ellis of Melbourne, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Derek Hall (Karen), Dustin Hall (Jayde) and Jeb Ellis (Kristin); seven great grandchildren, Matt Hall, Khloe West, Mayson West, Callie Hall, Leslie Hall, Lanie Hall and Korbyn Wesley Ellis; sister, Carrie Hastings of Oregon, and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylon Ellis; her parents; nine brothers, Darrell Gill, Millard Gill, Olus Gill, Goldie Gill, Coy Gill, Doil Gill, Virgel Floyd, Paul Newberry and Aarron Newberry and seven sisters, Callie Johnson, Ira Williams, Eunice Tillman, Dallean See, Hazel Cypret, Trula Yokum and Cordelia Thompson.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2015, 10:00 AM at Barker Funeral Home with Bro. Bobby Coleman officiating. Visitation will be Monday 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Humphries Cemetery in Glencoe, Arkansas, under the direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem. Pallbearers are Kim Hall, Randy Zeigler, Josh Smith, Jake Smith, Chip Gill and Greg Gill. Honorary Pallbearers are Dewell Tillman, HV Gill, Colbert Gill, Douglas Gill and Craig Williams. Memorials may be made to the Salem Senior Citizens Center.
