Homer "Sonny" Lawrence Owens

April 13, 1938 — January 3, 2015

Homer Lawrence "Sonny" Owens, 76, of Salem, Arkansas, son of the late C.L. "Spikey" and Ollie A. Owens passed away Saturday, January 3, 2015, in Moxee, Washington, after battling pancreatic cancer. He was united in marriage in 1958 to Marilyn T. Desmarias and to this union eight children were born. Sonny was a devoted husband, father and friend. He enjoyed hunting, music and gardening. Sonny had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. He was loved by so many. Sonny was a Christian and was baptized September 13, 1987. He leaves to mourn his passing six children, Gary Owens of Salem, Arkansas, Diana Owens of Ozark, Missouri, Brenda (David) Kohler, Joey Owens, Denise (Doug) Carter, all of West Plains, Missouri, and Michael (Dini) Owens of Gulf Shore, Alabama; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Laureta (Bill) Freeman of Twin Falls, Idaho, and Hazel Powell of Yakima, Washington; two brothers, Ed (Janet) Owens of Salem, Arkansas, and Jerry (Eileen) Owens of Napavine, Washington; the Desmarias family; his companion of the last five years, Carol Adams and her family, Byron (Rhonda) Adams, Carol Ann (Dave) Osbourne, Gaylon Adams, and Marty (Cindy) Adams; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Sonny is preceded in death by his loving wife of thirty seven years, Marilyn T. Owens; two daughters, Amanda C. Owens and Traci D. Owens; three brothers, Wendell, Larry and Charles Owens; daughter-in-law, Honey Owens; one grandson, Shawn Owens, and a nephew, Shane Thornton. A special thank you to Rhonda Adams and Laurie Wright, who were his Angels, by his bedside, day and night during his last days. To all the good hearted souls that cared and loved our dad, thank you so much. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, 2015, at 2:00 PM in Barker Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Kelly Watson officiating. Family will receive friends from 12 Noon until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Union Cemetery in Union, Arkansas, with arrangements entrusted to Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Arkansas.
