Leonard James Hicks was born January 30, 1919, in Forest Hill, Louisiana, to Lines and Etta (McCullough) Hicks. He departed this life Friday, December 5, 2014, at Eaglecrest Nursing & Rehab Center in Ash Flat, Arkansas, at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 5 days.
Leonard was united in marriage to Betty Ann Moore in Silver Spring, Maryland, on August 13, 1949. He served his Country with the US Marines during WWII. Leonard was employed as an iron worker in the construction industry and spent his last working years as a “tire man” making many trips to Poplar Bluff and Springfield, Missouri. He was a Christian and attended Word of Life Tabernacle serving as Trustee for many years.
Leonard is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Betty Hicks of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; three daughters, Patsy Ann Johnson of Oakdale, Louisiana, Vicki Ward (Danny) of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, and Carol Jackson (Truman) of Henryville, Indiana; three sons, Glen Hicks, and Steve Hicks (Lynna Jones) both of Cherokee Village, Arkansas, and Danny Hicks (Tonya) of Vail, Arizona; twenty-one grandchildren, Royce, Jackie, Rodney, John, Joanna, Sarah, Deborah, Sam, Amy, Cheryl, Rebecca, Ryan, Nathan, Timothy, Bradley, Justin, Angie, Brandon, Joshua, Westin and Chase; forty-two great grandchildren, Megan, Stefanie, Candace, Victoria, Brittany, Becky, Brett, Brittany, Courtney, Leanne, Hunter, Caden, Nicholas, Ansley, Ricki Lynn, Mia, Ty, Lauren, Allison, Grant, Gabrielle, Riley, Titus, Brayden, Gabriel, Bella, Riley, Madison, Sadie and Camdin; several great-great grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Nancy Hicks of Ozark, Missouri; a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by one son, Leonard James “Len” Hicks Jr; granddaughter, Debbie; his parents; five sisters, Hallie May, Lois, Vivian, Burna Dean and Ruby.
Funeral services will be held Monday, December 8, 2014, 10:00 AM at Word of Life Tabernacle in Hardy, Arkansas, with Bro. Mike Price and Bro. Jason Jackson officiating. Family will receive friends Sunday, December 7, 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the church with services entrusted to Barker Funeral Home of Salem. Interment will be in the Eagles Rest Cemetery in Wirth, Arkansas, with full military honors. Memorials preferred to WoundedWarriorProject.com.
