Ruby Rudean Evans of Salem, Arkansas, a wonderful wife, best Mother, Mother-in-Law, grandmother, sister and aunt anyone could know, passed away October 24, 2014 at Fulton County Hospital. She went to be with the Lord surrounded by her family and friends. She was born in Calico Rock, Arkansas, July 1, 1919, to Walter and Kee Cantrell, one of ten children, which included two sets of twins. She graduated from Oxford High School.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Everett Evans of Salem; one daughter, Barbara Taylor and husband Gary; one granddaughter, Julie Stearns and husband, Dennis, all of Searcy, Arkansas, two sisters, Maybelle Martin of Oxford, Arkansas, and Lenora Yancey of Melbourne, Arkansas; two step-daughters, Hazel Tucker (John) and Sue Hutson; one step-granddaughter, Vickie Bishop; two step-great grandchildren, Tesa Nelson and CJ Bishop and three step-great great grandchildren, Whitt, Bryce, and Reece all of Salem, Arkansas; and a host of nieces and nephews who will miss her very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Kee Cantrell; one brother, Roe Cantrell; six sisters, Glendora Cantrell, Lotha Martin, Pauline Campbell, Lois Caruthers, Adell Standerford and Willie Rains; step-son-in-law Jim Hutson; and three husbands, Steve Blevins, Lloyd Blevins and Otho Mooney.
Ruby was a very successful Avon Representative in Salem, Arkansas, for 26 years, winning many major prizes and trips in her honor. One trip was to Monte Carlo where she had the pleasure of meeting the late Princess Grace. But her great passion was gardening, quilting, crocheting, watching game shows and being a member of the Extension Homemakers Club of Heart. She was also a major participate in the Fulton County Fair every year exhibiting many items and winning the Grand Champion prize in various categories numerous times.
Ruby was a hard worker, very emotional, good Christian woman and lived her life with strength and determination. She believed hard work was the answer to everything. She never got anywhere late, always saying, ‘’I rather be a month early than a minute late”.
Ruby was a member of the First Baptist Church in Salem and had attended Heart Baptist Church with her beloved husband for the last twenty years. She was also a Sunday School Teacher at Union Baptist Church for many years. May she rest in peace with her Father in Heaven and know that she will always live and be loved in our hearts.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM Sunday, October 26, 2014, at First Baptist Church in Salem, Arkansas, with Bro. John Hodges officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time at the church. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery in Union, Arkansas, with services entrusted to Barker Funeral Home of Salem. Memorials may be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
