Mattie Lou Weaver was born August 7, 1935, in Belzoni, Mississippi, daughter of Ernest Edgar and Mattie Loraine (Foy) Palmer. She departed this life Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at her home in Mountain Home, Arkansas, at the age of 78 years, 10 months and 24 days.
Mattie was united in marriage to James Steele Weaver Sr on October 27, 1978, in Butler, Alabama. She was a member of the Sorosis Club, Daughters of the Confederacy, Red Hats Society and several art guilds. Mattie was self employed as a tax preparer and a member of Camp United Methodist Church.
Mattie is survived by five daughters, Wanda Joyce "Jodye" Irby of Mountain Home, Arkansas, Charlotte Ann White of Tyler, Texas, Teresa D Weaver of Troy, Virginia, Melissa Susan Conaway of Haysi, Virginia, and Michele Williams of Central Point, Oregon; two sons, Kevin Owens and wife Marti of Beckley, West Virginia, and Marshall Weaver of Central Point, Oregon; four grandchildren, Faydra, Eric, DaJuan and Amanda; eight great grandchildren; one brother James L Palmer and wife Nell of Greenville, Mississippi; many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and stepson Brian Owens.
Funeral services will be held at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas, at 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 3, 2014, with Pastor R L Curtis and Rev. John F Michael officiating. Family will receive friends from 12 Noon until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Camp Cemetery in Camp, Arkansas, with services entrusted to Barker Funeral Home of Salem. Pallbearers are Keevin Smith, Kevin Owens, Ray Hollis, Eric Gieger, Phil Hollis and Jeremy Saunders. Memorials preferred to Hospice of North Arkansas.
