James "Jim" William Shipman was born in Lake City, Arkansas, on July 27, 1938, son of Obid and Viola Mae (Gray) Shipman. He departed this life on Thursday, December 26, 2013, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas, at the age of 75 years, 4 months and 29 days.
Jim was united in marriage to Barbara Sue Lewis on April 14, 1990, at Monette, Arkansas. He was an over the road driver in the trucking industry for many years and was a member of Salem First Missionary Baptist Church.
Jim is survived by his wife Barbara of the home in Salem, Arkansas; two daughters, Debbie DePriest and husband Bobby of Paragould, Arkansas, and Leanna Dobbins of Clyde, Oklahoma; four sons, Kevin Russell and wife Pam of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Ellis Russell and wife Sarah of Jonesboro, Arkansas; Terry Hoy of Jackson, Mississippi, and James Hoy of Orange Park, Florida; sixteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Robert Shipman of Paragould, Arkansas, and Gerald Shipman of Jonesboro, Arkansas; and one sister Shirley Shipman of Jonesboro, Arkansas; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by one daughter Debbie Davis, parents, a brother Larry Shipman, and one sister Nellie James.
Funeral services will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church in Salem, Arkansas, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 28, 2013, with Elder Leon Graves officiating. Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery at Salem, Arkansas, with services under direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem. Visitation will be the day of the service from 12:00 Noon til 2:00 PM at the church. Pallbearers are Tony Pemberton, Bobby DePriest, Larry Travelstead, Shane Travelstead, Seth Travelstead, and Shawn Travelstead.
