Virgil Ray Mitchell was born in Lafe, Arkansas, on February 13, 1951, son of Maynard and Eula Virginia (Morris) Mitchell. He departed this life Saturday, November 30, 2013, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, at the age of 62 years, 9 months and 17 days.
Virgil was united in marriage to Anita Rose Marrie Woodall on June 6, 1971, at Manila, Arkansas. He was Senior Chief Petty Officer with the US Navy and served during the Vietnam War. Virgil was a member of Fleet Reserve Association and of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife Anita Mitchell of the home in Gepp, Arkansas; two sons, Herbert Ray Mitchell and wife Penny of Gepp, Arkansas, and Virgil Leon Mitchell and wife Helen of Mammoth Spring, Arkansas;
ten grandchildren; one great grandson; one sister Peggy Mills of Manila, Arkansas; one brother Gary Mitchell and wife Carolyn of Gepp, Arkansas; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas, at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 4, 2013, with Bro. Larry Ring officiating. Interment will be in the Pleasant View Cemetery in Gepp, Arkansas. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the funeral home with services under direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem, Arkansas. Memorials preferred to the Wounded Warriors at Warrior Foundation-Freedom Station, 1223 1/2 Suite A, 28th St. San Diego, CA 92102.
