Ben Carl Karpowicz was born in Chicago Heights, Illinois, on October 19, 1919, son of John and Caroline (Forczek) Karpowicz. He departed this life on Friday, June 28, 2013, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas, at the age of 93 years, 8 months, and 9 days.
Ben was united in marriage to Mildred Ruth (Manry) Tharp on April 9, 1994, at Batesville, Arkansas. He served his country with the US ARMY and was a member of the Navy Artillery. Ben was a foreman with Armstrong Paint & Varnish in Chicago, Illinois. After moving to Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, he served as fire chief for over twenty-five years and was a member of the Agnos Church of Christ.
Ben is survived by his wife, Mildred of the home in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas; two daughters, Noreen Czyz (Walter) of Yorkville, Illinois, and Judy Jarvis (David) of Cherokee Village, Arkansas; six grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one sister, Esther Pydo (Ted) of Leesburg, Florida; many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene; his parents; one son, Bobby Mack Tharp; two brothers, Joseph and Eddie; and one sister.
Funeral Services will be held at Agnos Church of Christ in Agnos, Arkansas, at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, with Bro. Farrell Nicholson and Bro. Jack Richardson officiating. Interment will follow at Manry Cemetery in Agnos. Visitation will be held on Monday, July 1, 2013, 6:00-8:00 PM at Barker Horseshoe Bend Memorial Chapel, Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, with services under direction of Barker Funeral Home of Salem.
