Arlis Schmidt was born August 15, 1936, in McPherson, Kansas, son of Cornelius H. and Alverta (Nightengale) Schmidt. He departed this life on January 31, 2013, at Fulton County Hospital in Salem, Arkansas, at the age of 76 years, 5 months and 16 days.
Arlis was united in marriage to Betty Jane Wilson on December 20, 1980, at Lake Tahoe, California. He spent his working years as a courier for a messenger company.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Jane Schmidt of the home; two sons, Brad Schmidt of Kansas City, Missouri and Jeff Schmidt of Kansas City, Missouri; two step-sons, Randy Richardson of Aberdeen, North Carolina and Steven Richardson of Cameron, North Carolina; a step daughter, Rhonda Dispennette of Williford, Arkansas; two brothers, Harold Schmidt (Vada) of Newburg, Alabama and Clarence Schmidt (Verna) of Macon, Mississippi; four sisters, Lois Yost (Conard) of Iroquois, South Dakota, Darla Martin (Luke) of Hesston, Kansas, Rosie Koehn (Daniel) of Halstead, Kansas, and Janice Olderman (Ordo) of Versailles, Missouri; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Naomi Wiggers.
A memorial service will be held at Barker Funeral Home Chapel in Salem, Arkansas, Friday, February 8, 2013, 10:00 AM, with Bro. Harold Cotter officiating.
