Richard Allen Sutcliffe

Richard Allen Sutcliffe was born on June 9, 1933, in Butler County, Iowa, son of Walter James and Doris Delila (Walsh) Sutcliffe. He departed this life on December 14, 2012 at his home in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas at the age of 79 years, 6 months and 5 days. Richard graduated from Rockford, Iowa High School in 1952 and enlisted in the U.S Army on April 8, 1953. He served in the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean Service Medal. Richard was united in marriage to Joan June Buckland on July 7, 1956 in Clarksville, Iowa. He retired from J.I. Case in Bettendorf, Iowa and moved to Horseshoe Bend, in September of 1995. He was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church. He is survived by wife Joan of the home, a daughter, June Dominacki (Bob), of Riverdale, Iowa; two sons Allen Sutcliffe, of Plattsmouth, Nebraska; James Sutcliffe (Amy), of Leo, Indiana; seven grandchildren; Joe Sutcliffe (Shelly), Rob and Katy Dominacki, Brittaney and Haley Sutcliffe, Kristi and Jeffrey Sutcliffe; six great-grandchildren; two sisters Marjorie Usher of Aitkin, Minnesota and Joyce Heyer of Waverly, Iowa; sister-in-laws: Dorothy Sutcliffe of Plainfield, Iowa, Elsie Hampton (Paul) of Pharr, Texas; brother-in-laws: Gene Buckland (Pat) of Pontiac, Illinois and Lynn Buckland (Liz) of Indianola, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Robert Sutcliffe. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Horseshoe Bend with Pastor David Tews officiating. Memorials may be made to the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. He will be placed to rest in Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery in Rock Island, Illinois.
