Madelyne L. Squier died August 20, 2012, at Crown Point Nursing
Home due to complications following a fall in her home on June 13.
She was born to Fred and Helen (Golden) Woodard in Bluffton, IN
on March 27, 1915, the eldest of three children. Madelyne was
married to Duane B. Squier of Springport, MI, in Battle Creek, MI,
on March 26, 1937. He preceded her in death in August, 1980.
Madelyne was one of the original “Rosie the Riveters”, working in a
war time metal factory. She then worked at the Kellogg Company in
Battle Creek until her retirement after 25 years. She moved to
Horseshoe Bend, AR, in 2006 to be near her daughter and son-inlaw,
Susan and Andy Clay. Madelyne was a devoted, loving Mother,
and was an avid gardener up until her illness. Madelyne loved dogs,
especially a Beagle named Sam, a poodle, Gigi, and Bounder.
Madelyne also enjoyed fishing, bird watching, and corresponding
with her friends and family who remained in Indiana and Michigan.
Madelyne is survived by a son, Lance Squier (Judy) of Rocklin, CA,
and a daughter, Susan (Andrew) Clay, of Horseshoe Bend, AR. She
was preceded in death by a son, Chad Squier of Horseshoe Bend, in
2009. A brother, Fred Woodard, and a sister, Mildred Meeks also
preceded her in death. Madelyne is survived by 10 grandchildren and
numerous great grandchildren. There will be a Memorial Service
held at Faith Presbyterian Church on Thursday, August 30, 2012, at
10:00 am., Rev. Dr. David Schaller officiating. Burial in Springport,
MI. Memorials may be made to “The Friends of Horseshoe Bend
