Herbert Amos Wicks, 98, of Ash Flat, Arkansas, was born on February 18, 1914, in Wright County, Iowa, son of Thomas Amos and Julia Gunhilde Helene (Ashe) Wicks. He departed this life on July 27, 2012, at Eagle Crest Nursing Home in Ash Flat.
Herbert was united in marriage to Vivian Mabel Maddick on August 14, 1934, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He worked as a grain elevator manager for Federal North Iowa Grain and he was of the Lutheran faith. He loved playing backgammon, checkers and card games.
He leaves to mourn his passing: one son, Leif Wicks of Fullerton, California; three daughters, Bernadine Burke of Tucson, Arizona, Deanna Heintz of Fairfax, Iowa, and Joan Housh of Salem, Arkansas; nine grandchildren and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers, Harold, Thomas Gerhard and Homer Wicks, and three sisters, Tillie Hill, Lilia Jansen and Delia Scott.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012, 2:00 PM, at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha, Iowa, under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas, and Ewing Funeral Home in Kanawha, Iowa.
