Anne Tray Link Schmeder, 91, formerly of Ottumwa, passed from this life on June 22, 2012, in her beloved town of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas.
She was born July 5, 1920, in Ottumwa to James and Genevieve (Ryan) Tray. She married John Link on February 1, 1944. He preceded her in death in 1974. She married Nelson "Red" Schmeder on October 26, 1979. He preceded her in death in 2000.
Anne was a 1938 graduate of Ottumwa High School and played a great part in every class reunion. She loved writing and receiving letters, and kept in touch with classmates until her declining health in the last 2 years. She was a Gold Star mother.
Anne was a member of St. Patrick's Parish in Ottumwa where she worked at the parish office for several years until the move to Arkansas in 1971. As Horseshoe Bend was a young community, she was instrumental in the formation of St. Mary's of the Mount Catholic Church, where she was a member for over 40 years. She was co-founder of Telecare in Horseshoe Bend.
Ann leaves her son Terry (Marcia) Link of Ooltewah, Tennessee: two daughters, Jane (Mike) Vaughn of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jody (Lindel) Wiseman of Wiseman, Arkansas: two step-daughters, Phyllis Santens of St. Charles, Missouri, and Diane (Tom) Langwith of St. Charles, Missouri; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, and a son John F. Link, a Green Beret, who was killed during the TET Offensive in 1968, a grandson Chad, brother Francis Tray and sister Mary Daugherty.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Church, Ottumwa, Iowa, on Friday, June 29, 2012, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
