Helen S. Valenta passed away on April 11, 2012, at her home in Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas. She was 89 years old and comforted by family as she passed into Heaven. She was born on March 31, 1923, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Helen is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Joe, her daughter Linda Flug of Horseshoe Bend, son Jim of Dexter, Michigan and son John of Wetumpka, Alabama. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Helen and Joe moved to Horseshoe Bend from Cedar Falls, Iowa, where they raised their family together and she worked for the Cedar Falls Community Schools as an education secretary. A resident of Horseshoe Bend for 30 years, Helen was active in many organizations including the Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church Choir and Mary Circle, Flower and Garden Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Red Had Society, Blenders Choir, Boating and Fishing Club and Little Theater.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2013, at the Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM. There will be no visitation and the family requests contributions to a memorial fund in her memory, c/o Horseshoe Bend United Methodist Church, 4th and Church Street, Horseshoe Bend, AR 72512, or contribution to a charity in her name. Interment will be at a future date in the Czech National Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
