Eugene Humpfer

December 17, 1918 — March 11, 2012

Eugene (Gene) Humpfer of Horseshoe Bend, AR passed away Sunday, March 11, 2012 at the age of 93. He was born December 17, 1918 in Hammond, IN, the son of William J. Humpfer and Alvina Stommel Humpfer.  He graduated High School in 1938. Gene served in the U.S. Air Corps for 3 years, 3 months and 27 days.   He worked for Shell Oil Company of Hammond, IN for 29 years before retiring and moving to Horseshoe Bend. Gene married Evelyn Cassady on May 23, 1945.  They were blessed with five wonderful children; one son James (Maggie) and four daughters; Janet Hill (Tom), Diane Kitchen (David) all of Las Vegas, NV,  Donna Monzulla of Joppa, IL,  Joan Drake (Dave) of Medford, OR; 13 Grandchildren and 12 Great Grandchildren as well as a host of family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn, his parents, his two brothers (Bob and Jack), his three sisters (Angie, Vera and Kathleen) and granddaughter Teresa. A memorial mass will be held on Friday, April 13, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Mary of the Mount Catholic Church located at 1002 First Street in Horseshoe Bend with Father Linus Ukomadu officiating. Arrangements are being handled by Barker Funeral Home, Salem AR.  Additional information may be obtained on their website at www.barkerfuneral.com In lieu of flowers donations in Gene’s name may be made to St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church for memorial masses at 1002 First Street in Horseshoe Bend, AR  72512, Crown Point Health and Rehab for their Activity Fund at 1203 South Bend Drive in Horseshoe Bend, AR  72512 or to the Charity of your choosing.
