Desmond Leon Jones, 76, of Salem, Arkansas, was born on September 11, 1935, in Viola, Arkansas, son of Willie Seaborn and Vera Bell (Freeman) Jones. He departed this life on January 16, 2012, at Hospice of the Ozarks Hospice House in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Leon was united in marriage to Nora Fay Sanders on October 26, 1957, at Viola, Arkansas. He worked as a staff assistant for North Arkansas Electric Cooperative. Leon was a member of the Salem First Baptist Church and served his country in the United States Army.
He leaves to mourn his passing: daughter, Roxanne Crow and husband Bill of Viola, Arkansas; daughter-in-law, Angela Jones of Salem, Arkansas; five grandchildren, Maranda Pingel and husband Charles of Walnut Ridge, Arkansas, Makenzie Pingel and husband Caleb of North Little Rock, Arkansas; Morgan Crow of Viola, Arkansas, Raleigh Jones of Springfield, Missouri, and Madison Jones of Salem, Arkansas; four great-grandchildren, Ethan Pingel, Emily Pingel, Eli Pingel, and Vivienne Pingel; sister, Margorie Hill of Viola, Arkansas, and many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, two sons, Rocky Jones and Desi Jones, granddaughter Marissa Crow, his parents and brother-in-law Thednal Hill.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 18, 2012, 2:00 PM, at Salem First Baptist Church in Salem, Arkansas, with Bro. John Hodges and Bro. Larry Ring officiating. Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery under the direction of Barker Funeral Home in Salem, Arkansas. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 17, 6-8 PM, at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Morgan Crow, Raleigh Jones, Charles Pingel, Caleb Pingel, Larry Sanders and Frankie Auten. Honorary pallbearers will be Harold Emery, Dannie Lafferty, Boyd Hall, Toby Hall, Mike Dover, Dwane McCullough, John Simers and George Walling.
